Hranush Israelyan has suffered irreparable losses in every war in Artsakh: her grandfather was killed in World War II, her husband in the Artsakh Liberation War. She endured unimaginable hardships to raise her children, and as they grew up, they supported their mother. But in September 2023, war brought another irreversible tragedy to her family.

As the conflict raged, the women and children of the family escaped through the forest and survived. The men stayed behind to defend their village.
Hours later, Hranush received the most devastating news of her life—her son and son-in-law had been killed. Just days after this tragedy, another explosion at a fuel depot took the life of her other son-in-law.

Today, all of Hranush’s grandchildren have been left fatherless.
Now, this grieving mother lives in rented housing in Oshakan, in harsh conditions without even basic necessities.
