Nina Vardevanyan lives in the village of Tsater with her four young children. Three of them attend school, and the youngest goes to preschool.

Since the loss of her husband in 2021, Nina has been solely responsible for the household. The family’s only regular income consists of a 120,000 AMD survivor’s benefit and a 50,000 AMD child support allowance.

Nina has no permanent job, but takes on seasonal work whenever possible to cover her children’s basic needs. Despite her efforts, it’s not enough—especially since her youngest child suffers from asthma, which requires expensive, ongoing medication.

The house they live in is in extremely poor condition: the roof, walls, floors, and doors are badly damaged, creating an unhealthy and damp environment that causes the children to get sick frequently.
