About

Many of you already know little Mikael, who is 1.5 years old. Thanks to your support, for months we have been able to provide him with the medication he needs, helping slow the progression of his disease and preserve his motor abilities and other vital functions.

Mikael is the third child in his family. His parents, older sister, and brother surround him with endless love, warmth, and care.

When Mikael was 5 months old, his parents noticed that his legs were weak and that he could not support himself on them. They consulted a doctor, and genetic testing confirmed a severe genetic condition: spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), type 1.

This disease causes progressive muscle weakness and atrophy. Without appropriate treatment, it can affect not only a child’s mobility, but also lead to breathing problems, difficulty swallowing, orthopedic complications, and other life-threatening conditions.

Fortunately, modern treatments that can change the course of the disease are now available. One of them is Evrysdi (Risdiplam), which can significantly slow disease progression and help preserve motor and respiratory functions when treatment is started on time and taken continuously.

However, this vital medication is extremely expensive and is still not available in Armenia. Following negotiations with the official supplier, the Health Fund for Children of Armenia was able to secure exceptional terms and obtain the medication at a price almost three times lower.

The monthly cost of the dose Mikael currently needs is $2,410. As he gains weight, the required dosage and, accordingly, the cost of treatment may increase.

To continue providing Mikael with the medication without interruption, we need to raise another $19,280.

Every donation is vital for little Mikael. Let us help him continue his treatment without interruption and preserve the abilities and functions he is fighting to maintain today.
