About
Milena is one of the students at the secondary school in the village of Atan. Alongside her desire to do well in school, she also wants to grow into a kind and caring person. When asked what kindness means to her, Milena answered: reaching out to someone who has fallen and not leaving anyone alone.
Milena studies at a school where the position of math teacher remained vacant for years. Because of this, students did not have the chance to truly study the subject, develop an interest in it, or discover the professional opportunities it could open up for them.
Thanks to the Teach For Armenia teacher-leader program, Atan found Meri — a bright and inspiring teacher who opened the world of numbers to the children.
Meri’s goal is to help her students use what they learn beyond the classroom — in their own lives, in their village, and in their community — and to apply mathematical thinking to solving real community problems.
For Meri, teaching in Atan has become a way to contribute to the development of her homeland and to express her patriotism through action.
