These conditions severely affect Amalya's lungs, causing tissue damage and reducing her ability to breathe. Over time, this leads to irreversible changes in the lungs, potentially resulting in the need for a transplant.

Amalya requires costly medication for her treatment—medicine that is not available in Armenia and is beyond her family's financial means. One box of the medication costs $800, and she needs three boxes to be taken over the next six months.

Amalya dreams of becoming a doctor so she can help other children, and she often pretends to treat her family members with her toy medical kit at home.
