When Mikael was just 5 months old, he was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, SMA type 1. This severe genetic disease gradually weakens the muscles and, without continuous treatment, can also threaten a child’s respiratory and other vital functions.

Thanks to your support, Mikael has been taking Evrysdi (Risdiplam) for several months. The medication helps slow the progression of the disease and preserve the abilities he currently has. His treatment must not be interrupted.

However, this vital medication is extremely expensive and is still not available in Armenia. Following negotiations with the official supplier, the Health Fund for Children of Armenia was able to secure exceptional terms and obtain the medication at a price almost three times lower. The monthly cost of the dose Mikael currently needs is $2,410. As he gains weight, the required dosage and, accordingly, the cost of treatment may increase. To provide Mikael with medication for the next 6 months, $14,460 needs to be raised.
